About Me

  My name is Jessica “Jess” Scanlon. I’m a third-semester graduate student at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and a reporter for City News Service.  I specialize Science & Health subject concentration. I’m a multimedia journalist. I am currently a reporter for NY City News Service and a freelance reporter for various places. My work has appeared in Downtown Express, City Limits, the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange and The Active Times.

I have previously freelanced for Her Campus from  also served as a Staff Writer and Columnist for The Rider News. Outside of journalism, I served as a Campaign Manager at my undergraduate Public Relations Society and interned at Hilary Morris Public Relations in Princeton, NJ. I also tutor Spanish on the weekends. I’m a 2012 graduate of Rider University. I majored in journalism and Spanish. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and with Journalism Honors.

My interests include studying languages (I speak Spanish fluently and some Mandarin Chinese.), writing, social media, comics, politics, foreign films and science. I’m also a coffee/tea addict
